Entertainment and playfarm Pierewiet
General
Simply put: for everyone who just wants to quietly enjoy Zeeuws-Vlaamse hospitality. We have many families with children up to around 10 years old. For this age group, Pierewiet, the water playground, and the animation program are suitable. For children over 10, we do not have special facilities or activities. But active couples without children, or whose children have already left home, also feel at home with us. This is because the campsite is quiet and easy to overview. The area around the campsite is ideal for walking and cycling trips.
Upon arrival, you will receive a plastic card for the barrier. You can use this card to open the barrier. Make sure your car is actually in front of the barrier, as there are sensors in the ground. If there is no car in front of the barrier, it will not open when you use the card. To ensure peace and quiet at night, the barrier only operates between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Please do not forget to return the card when you leave.
Yes, of course. However, only one car is allowed per camping pitch or per chalet. A second car can be parked free of charge either in the parking area at the entrance or in the additional parking area on Molenweg (behind the campsite).
In Cadzand-Bad (5 km) there is a Spar supermarket catering to tourists. It’s not very large, but it’s perfectly suitable for daily groceries and dinner supplies.
If you’re looking for a bigger supermarket, it’s best to go to Oostburg or Breskens (both 7 km away). In Oostburg, you’ll find an Albert Heijn, Aldi, Lidl, and Jumbo. In Breskens, there is a Jumbo and a Plus supermarket.
In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, there are no trains. If you want to travel to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen by train, you need to get off at Vlissingen station. From there, you have a direct connection to the ferry that crosses the Westerschelde to Breskens. Up to this point, the journey is straightforward.
From Breskens, you can use the Flex Bus since November 2025. You need to download the app “Reizen door Zeeland” and order a Flex-Bus ride at least one hour in advance. You board at one of the green signs marked “Hub”, located by the ferry in Breskens and about 250 meters from the campsite. You can also order a Flex-Bus by phone (also at least one hour in advance): 0031 88 – 23 58 070.
You can pay for your Flex ride in advance when booking through the “Reizen door Zeeland” app. If you pay on the bus, you can use your (digital) debit card. Unfortunately, cash, Ov-Pay, or OV-chip card scanning is not accepted.
Of course, it’s much easier to ask someone to pick you up at the ferry in Breskens. ;-)
Unfortunately, there is no bus connection to Knokke-Heist station.
At Camping de Meulinge, you are definitely welcome to have visitors – we think it’s only nice! Day visitors are welcome for free. If children are visiting, they often want to play at Speelboerderij Pierewiet. For this, a day ticket must be purchased at Speelboerderij Pierewiet.
If visitors want to stay overnight, this is possible at your pitch as long as no more than six people are staying there. For overnight stays, we charge €6 per person per night (except for children aged 0, 1, and 2). On top of that, there is also the tourist tax by the way. Please report this at the reception. If there are more than six people at the pitch, we ask visitors to book their own pitch on the campsite.
Are visitors coming by car? They may park on Molenweg. Please do not let visitors park on the campsite pitch or by the chalet. If everyone brings two cars onto the site, there won’t be enough parking spaces for everyone, and it will also be less safe for the children.
It depends.
A maximum of 6 people per pitch or accommodation is allowed to stay overnight. The cost for an overnight stay is approximately €8.00 per person (or per child) per night, depending on the tourist tax. This includes the tourist tax and access to Pierewiet.
Overnight guests must always be reported to us due to possible emergencies and for the night register.
Yes, you are allowed to barbecue at the campsite, but please pay attention to the following:
Charcoal barbecue: For safety, keep a bucket of water nearby and make sure our grass is not damaged.
Electric barbecue: The pitches have 10-amp power. Most electric barbecues and grills require around 2000 watts, so that is possible. Just make sure all other devices are turned off.
Noise consideration: Quiet hours start at 11:00 PM. Barbecuing together is fun and part of camping, but keep in mind that children often go to bed around 7:00–8:00 PM. Sometimes group barbecues can get a bit too lively, which may disturb other guests. Please respect the quiet hours by 11:00 PM, as we are all sharing the campsite.
Of course. We understand that many families are not complete without their loyal four-legged friend.
On the pitches, a maximum of two dogs per pitch is allowed at € 4.25 per dog per night.
Even in three of our rental chalets, you may bring your dog. There too, a maximum of two dogs per chalet is allowed at € 4.25 per dog per night. Additionally, a maximum of two dogs is allowed in our caravan wagons.
Camping de Meulinge is located 2 km from the beach. You can walk there, but it will take you 20 to 30 minutes (depending on your group). There are several large car parks at the beach, so you can also go by car.
But the best way to get to the beach is by bike! It only takes 5 minutes.
Yes, you may set up a party tent to sit under in the evening. However, please note the following:
-the party tent must be open so that it cannot be considered a tent by the local council.
-please note that it must be quiet on the campsite after 11 p.m.
Yes, we are a quiet family campsite. For this reason, it must be quiet on the campsite after 11 p.m. Please be considerate of other families who may have small children sleeping at night.
Reservations & payments
Yes, we require a deposit of half of the total amount. This is due two weeks after the reservation. The second half is normally paid three weeks before arrival. It is possible to arrange a different payment schedule if needed. Please consult the reception if you would like to set up a customized payment plan.
For reservations made at short notice, different payment conditions of course apply.
We apply the RECRON terms and conditions regarding cancellations. This means that in case of cancellation, the following fees apply:
- Cancellation more than three months before the start date: 15% of the agreed price;
- Cancellation between three and two months before the start date: 50% of the agreed price;
- Cancellation between two and one month before the start date: 75% of the agreed price;
- Cancellation within one month before the start date: 90% of the agreed price;
- Cancellation on the day of the start date: 100% of the agreed price.
You can also take out a cancellation insurance via us within 7 days after booking. In that case, if something unfortunate happens, you will receive your deposit back (minus the cost of the cancellation insurance itself).
(In extreme situations, such as the coronavirus crisis in 2020, Camping De Meulinge reserves the right to deviate from the RECRON terms.)
Arrival & departure
No, that's not necessary. In principle, your surname is sufficient. If, for example, we have spelled your surname incorrectly in the system, it may be useful to know your reservation number. However, this rarely occurs.
You can usually check in at your camping spot from 2 p.m. Rental accommodation is available from 3 p.m. This is because we need to mow, clean and possibly carry out maintenance between guests. During the high season, there are usually changes and we are obliged to adhere to these check-in times. We ask for your understanding.
Are you visiting during the low season? You are welcome to enquire the day before whether it is possible to check in earlier. Sometimes you may be fortunate.
Please note that the reception is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. We have an hour's break at lunchtime.
Check-out time is no later than 11:00 a.m.
Would you like a late check-out? If the camping pitch or accommodation has not been rebooked on the day of your departure, this is usually possible. The cost is €10 for a camping pitch and €30 for rental accommodation. You may then stay until 5 p.m. Always check with reception in advance.
Reception is open from 9 a.m. Would you like to leave before 9 a.m.? The barrier is open from 8 a.m., so you can drop your barrier card and any keys in the letterbox.
On changeover days, the campsite is very busy. For this reason, only one car per pitch / per chalet is allowed. You may briefly use a second car to unload, but we ask you to park the second car outside the campsite afterwards.
Campig pitch
All our camping pitches have a 10-amp power supply, which equals 2300 watts. This allows you to use quite a few devices, such as a Senseo coffee maker or a small heater. However, please keep in mind not to use such devices at the same time, as this could trip the circuit breaker.
All camping pitches have a 10-amp power supply. This allows you to use up to 2300 watts at the same time, so a standard kettle, Senseo coffee maker, etc., is no problem—although you shouldn’t use such devices simultaneously. Most campers are used to keeping this in mind.
If the power happens to go out, first check whether the fuse in your own camping unit has tripped. If that’s not the case, then the fuse in our distribution box has likely gone out. You cannot fix this yourself and will need to report it to us. Power outages can be reported until 10:00 PM.
Per camping pitch, you are only allowed to set up 1 tent, caravan, or camper for accommodation. This is actually a rule set by the municipality of Sluis, not our own regulation. In addition, you may place a maximum of two small auxiliary tents. According to the municipality of Sluis, an auxiliary tent is defined as a tent with a maximum area of 6 m².
On each camping pitch, 1 camping unit (tent, caravan, folding trailer, VW bus, or camper) is allowed. In addition, up to 2 small auxiliary tents may be placed. These may have a maximum area of 6 m². This is a rule set by the municipality of Sluis.
The size of the pitches can vary, so if you place a large caravan, a car, and two auxiliary tents, it can get quite tight. Otherwise, please check with the reception.
Almost, yes.
The only thing we ask is that you position the back of your caravan against one of the hedges. So, don’t face the back of your caravan toward other campers, as that is usually not very pleasant for them.
Accommodation
For all our rental accommodations, we require a €50 security deposit. If everything is in order after your stay, we will refund this amount to your account. We aim to process the refund within two weeks after departure. If the chalet is left very dirty or if something has been damaged, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the deposit. We are not concerned about something minor like an accidentally broken glass, but rather about more valuable items such as a TV or a mattress.
Have you booked a luxury comfort pitch with a private sanitary unit? Then we require a €10 deposit for the key.
No, cleaning costs are not included. Unlike many campsites and bungalow parks, Camping De Meulinge does not charge standard cleaning costs. We do ask guests to leave the chalet clean. If you do not, we will deduct cleaning costs from your deposit. You can, of course, let us know in advance that you do not wish to clean and would therefore like to book cleaning costs.
In our rental accommodations, mattress protectors, duvets, and pillows are provided for use. However, bed linen such as duvet covers must be brought by yourself or can be reserved in advance from us for €12.50 per person.
Towels are not provided and cannot be rented, so you must bring your own.
Facilities
No, we don’t use shower tokens. You can simply press the button, and water will come out of the showerhead. To keep waiting times reasonable during the high season, the water in the central sanitary building runs for 3 minutes at a time. After that, you can press the button again if you’d like the water to run for another 3 minutes.
In the private sanitary cabins and rental accommodations, there is no stop button. Nevertheless, we kindly ask our guests not to use more water than necessary.
No, we are too small to run a proper shop.
In the mornings, however, our bakery section in the main building is open. There, we bake fresh rolls and croissants for you. On weekends and during holidays, we always bake plenty, and you can simply walk in and choose what looks good. During the low season, we may ask you to place your order in advance so that we don’t end up with a large surplus of bread. We consider such waste a shame.
The main building also offers a small selection of sandwich toppings, coffee/tea, juices, and hygiene products.
It is not possible to rent a refrigerator at our campsite. However, it is possible to rent one from a nearby company and have it delivered to the campsite and picked up again. Many guests have already done this!
Yes, Camping De Meulinge offers several regular bicycles and four electric bikes for rent.
The regular bikes are perfect for short rides to the beach or nearby villages. If you’re planning to go on a longer cycling trip, you might prefer an electric bike.
A regular bike costs €12.50 per day and €50 per week.
An electric bike costs €29.50 per day and €135 per week.
Child seats (front and rear) are also available for rent.
You can reserve the bikes in advance free of charge at the reception.
There is no such thing. The sanitary building and the laundry room are accessible 24/7.
When the campsite is open (usually from early April to the end of October), daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Yes, absolutely — this can be done free of charge at the reception. We have plenty of cooling elements available for you to borrow. However, when the weather is nice, we hand out a maximum of three cooling elements per family, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
You can also bring your own cooling elements and have them frozen here.
Of course! We have our own snack bar/terrace and a pancake restaurant.
In addition, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen offers countless options for dining out.
Yes, you can. At the parking lot by the campsite entrance, we have three charging stations, each for two cars. So, a total of six cars can charge at the same time.
Yes, we do. We have containers for glass, paper, plastic, wood, rubble, organic waste, and general waste.
The large container (20 m³) is for green waste. It is this large because of garden trimmings. Please do not put any (plastic) bags in this container. At the back right, you will find a compactor container with two small bin flaps. This is the container for general waste.
Batteries and other small hazardous waste can be handed in at the reception.
Yes, definitely! Our Wi-Fi system is open, so you don’t need a password. Guests tell us that it works so well that you can even stream, download, send files, or do whatever you like on multiple devices – all completely free.
All chalets at Camping De Meulinge, including the rental chalets, have their own modem. The rental chalets therefore each have their own network with a corresponding password. You can find this password in the information package.
Entertainment and playfarm Pierewiet
Yes, that’s allowed. Upon arrival, your children will receive a festival wristband, which can be worn throughout your stay (children usually think this is very cool). With this wristband, they can play for free in the outdoor playground, indoor playground, pedal kart track, water playground, and petting farm.
The only activities that require a fee are the tech loft and mini golf.
Camping De Meulinge has a huge play farm (Pierewiet) that many visitors from outside also come to. They pay an entrance fee for their children to play. However, children staying at our campsite can play for free. That’s why they receive a wristband upon arrival, so the staff at Pierewiet can see that they belong to the campsite and do not need to pay.
Usually during Easter, the May holidays, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and the summer holidays. We generally follow the most common school holiday periods in the South and Central regions of the Netherlands. Would you like to know exactly when entertainment is offered? Please ask at the reception, as it can vary from time to time.
Please note that starting in 2026, we will have a new concept for our entertainment program.
Yes, Speelboerderij Pierewiet is part of Camping De Meulinge. The play facilities of Pierewiet are located at the edge of the campsite, so children don’t need to leave the site to enjoy all the activities. And because you’re staying at Camping De Meulinge, your children can play for free in the indoor playground, outdoor playground, water playground, and the petting farm.
